Dog Products

I absolutely love shopping for my dogs, and have tried my best to list all of my favorite dog products here. Hopefully this works as a nice list to start with when getting a puppy. Obviously you don’t need all of these items right away! And depending on your living situation and such some items will or won’t apply to you.

Please note that as an Amazon Associate I may earn a small commission when you purchase products using the below links. It does not cost you anything extra to purchase the items through these links.

Water Dish

Nature’s Miracle Stain and Odor Remover: They also have a refill sized bottle so you can use/throw away less plastic 😊

Collars and Leashes:

  • This has a waist belt and then connects the leash to the belt so you can be hands-free. I LOVE this, especially for running with your dog, or if you have multiple dogs. There are multiple D-rings along the leash so you can shorten the leash length when you need your dog to stay right by your side. I also like using it for training because if I need to drop the leash to use my hands to get treats or something, I don’t have to worry about my dog being loose, they’re still connected to me.

  • I like to have a collar on my dogs 24/7 so that they have their rabies tag and name tag with your contact info on it at all times in case they get loose and run away. But for walking my dog, I always use a harness. Tails of the Adirondacks in Pllatsburgh, NY has brands that will give you a new harness and leash if your dog chews it. The puppies grandmother, Riley, probably went through a dozen harnesses from here, and we were always given a new one for free (just paid sales tax). I would highly recommend finding a brand that offer this! It’s so worth it, especially when they’re younger. Riley doesn’t chew her leash or harness anymore, but she did until she was 2 ½ years old.
  • Having a long leash is great for training outside and practicing recall and other obedience training.

Toys:

  • Here is a great deal on a bundle of puppy toys – 20 toys for $20

  • Hollow Chew toys – I really like the Chew King Brand. Their price is MUCH better than Kong, and they have very similar products. I put one of their fetch balls in the puppies to-go bag, but I also recommend this toy from their brand. (Dunbar Academy is a big proponent of feeding your puppy using a hollow chew toy instead of a bowl, and these would work well for that.)

  • Lick mats are also great for training and for bath time.

  • Treat bags
      • This one comes with a lot of extra goodies, like a foldable travel bowl, clicker, poop bags, a whistle, and a waist band.

Puppy Probiotic: I would suggest talking about this with your vet when you go for your first appointment. We give a daily one to the puppies here, and our vet prescribes us one whenever they go through a bad case of diarrhea. It helps keep their gut balanced. You can also give your pups unsweetened, plain yogurt. We add a bit of yogurt to the puppies food here as well.

    Puppy Pee Pads:

            • This one is 28″x34″, 40 count for $23.40

          • Washable Pee Pads: We use these A TON for the puppies. If you’d like to not create so much waste from throw away pee pads, this is a great option. The material for the two I’ve linked below is thin, so even with the large size it’s easy to throw in the washer and there’s still plent of room for other stuff if you’d like. And it’s dries very well in the dryer. There are so many sizes available. If you have a large pen I would recomend 72″x72″

        For a crate I would recomend 32″x48″.

            • If you’re getting a washable pee pad, then I also recommend getting Lysol Laundry Sanitizer. Or if you’re washing them on their own or with whites, you can use bleach. I put bleach in with all my washable pads and I’ve never had an issue with color stains.

        Kennel:

Obviously, there are a TON of options for crates. I’ve always liked the wire metal crate because they fold up, so you can take it with you if you travel somewhere. Here is an example if the kind I use. This price on amazon is way better than what I paid at PetSmart. I would go with the 42” or 48” to make sure it still has plenty of room when your pup is full grown. If you’re getting one of the smaller pups of the litter, I think the 42” would be fine.

I also really like using a pen so that they have an enclosed area, but plenty of room for a potty area, play area, and sleeping area. It’s also nice for when they’re still not potty trained you can set it up somewhere like your living room and keep them in an enclosed area, but you’ll still be in the room with them and they can see you. I would recommend getting a tall one though since they are great climbers (we’ve already got escapees out of a 2 ½ feet high pen). I like this style because it only has vertical bars, so they can’t climb out. It can also be used as a gate that attaches to you wall.

        Bath time/grooming:

          • Brushes – I finally found brushes that I really like for my doodles, but they’re on the expensive side. I’ll link them here in case you want to buy them, but I’ll also link a cheaper option.
            • I use the black brush first on my dogs, which has less bristles than the red one. It starts detangling them. If you’re only going to get one of these brushes, I would say get this one. It’s easier on the dogs and doesn’t pull as much.
            • I use this one after using the black one. It has more bristles and further detangles after using the black one. But I would only recommend using it after brushing them with the black one, and it can be difficult to brush the tight curly hair with this one if it hasn’t already been brushed first.

              • Here’s a cheaper option. I haven’t personally used this one, but it looks very similar and has good reviews. You can also search for ‘dog slicker brush’ online and there will be lots of options!

          • Blow dryer – I only recently started using a dog grooming blow dryer, and it’s a game changer. They dry so much faster, and come out SUPER fluffy and adorable. I never understood how my groomer was able to get my doodles to looks so fluffy, and now I know how. These can be on the expensive side. I would focus on finding one that is as quiet as you can get. I have a noisy one and my dogs don’t like it much.
              • This is the dryer I’m considering replacing mine with.

          • Clippers – This is a grooming kit that has a regular sized clipper for grooming with 6 different length guards. It also has another clipper with a small blade for doing paws and sanitary areas. While I haven’t yet purchased the regular sized clippers, I have the small sized clippers and LOVE it. It’s so quiet it really doesn’t bother my dogs, and I did all of the puppies paws with it and they slept right through it. And according to the pictures on the amazon listing, the regular sized clippers are actually even quieter than the small sized one that I have. I will most likely be purchasing the regular size clippers from this brand myself soon!

          • Ear wipes: I find that doodles tend to get ear infections, especially after getting a bath or going in water. You can help prevent this by keeping their ears clean. Also, after they get wet either clean them with solution or dry them with cotton balls.

          • Anti-Itch ear solution: My dog Sophie has allergies, and her ears get itchy, to the point where neither one of us can sleep because she itches her ears all night long. This stuff works really well for her. If you find your dog itching their ears a lot, you might want to try this. However, if your dog is itching their ears and it smells bad, it very likely an ear infection that should be treated by prescription medicine by your vet. But just an itchy ear without any smell might just be a reaction to something or allergies.
              • I’ve also found this in-store at Runnings for a slightly cheaper price.

Travel: If you plan on taking your dog in the car a lot and/or travelling with you dog, then I would recommend having some of these products.

          • Travel Bag – 1 Dog Tote bag, 2 Dog Food carrier bags, 2 Pet Silicone collapsible bowls, first aid kit pouch, Front Large pocket that opens to a Water-Resistant Placemat. I don’t personally have this but have always wanted to get one, if nothing else to keep as my dog emergency car pack.

          • Dog Stake Tie Out Cable: Great for camping and when staying at Airbnb’s without a fenced yard. Allows your dog to be outside with you without you holding onto a leash.

          • Light Up Dog Collar – We love using these when camping. Our darker colored dogs basically become invisible at night, so we put these on them so we can always know where they are.
